Description
My husband and I visited Watkins Glen State Park, NY in mid of July 2013.
We enjoy exploring the dramatic landscape of Watkins Glen, on the Gorge Trail which follows Glen Creek pas water-sculpted rock and 19 Waterfalls. My opinion, the best scene of waterfall in this Park is Rainbow Falls.
Rainbow falls is in the middle of the Gorge trails. We can walk under this waterfalls. Visit Rainbow Falls in late afternoon we can see rainbows reflected off the falls on a sunny day.
And here I bring back my best memories of Rainbow Falls in autumn color.
Watskin Glen Park History :
Sparkling lakes, breathaking waterfalls, and rolling pastoral land dominate the landscape of the Finger Lakes Region.
Over thousands of years, gigantic glaciers and coursing streams carved this landscape shared by generations of people.
Watskin Glen State Park is one of 29 facilities of the Finger lakes State Park Region.
Water has shaped the natural landscape of the park. During the pas million years, water in the form of giant mounds of ice, or glaciers, covered New York State several times, dramatically transforming the land in its path. In this region, the most recent glacier moved through shallow river valleys leaving in its place deep, steep-side troughts. When the glacier receded north about 10,000 year ago, water filled these new troughs, creating the 11 finger lakes which include Seneca Lake. Since then, water in the form of Glen Creek has poured down the glacially steeped hillside, cutting away its soft sedimentary rock.
This on going process has formed this park's rugged gorge and spectacular waterfalls.
Glen comes from and old Greek work meaning: " small, narrow, sceluded valley "
